Bika at University. UW. UWC. SUN

Bika Open Source LIMS is hitting it off at educational institutions around the globe, partnering UWC SANBI in biobanking and proud to announce first customisations for the University of Washington Department of Environmental Health & Occupational Health Sciences included in next LIMS 3 release. CAF at SUN has joined the fray with three implementations and requirements analysis for more.

EduLIMS. Spain

Earlier, Spanish developers, Naralabs, used Bika in a project to construct EduLIMS for education in collaboration with the Institut Montilivi de Girona and the Integrated Center Donapea of Pamplona, both teaching higher education laboratory analysis and quality control in chemical, micro-biological and water treatment disciplines.

Their LIMS implementations integrated existing teaching material and enable students to resolve real-life scenarios with their labs assuming client roles on one another's web-based systems, and exchanging samples and results. EduLIMS managed the maintenance, testing and calibration of lab instruments at the Institut Montilivi.

Central Analytical Facilities. Stellenbosch

For CAF, the Central Analytical Facilities at Stellenbosch University, scheduling will be added for on-line reservations of instruments by researchers. CAF functions as both high-tech research and commercial facility, managing the university's top-end instruments, many in geochemistry and materials testing and imaging, and other disciplines ranging from food and environmental to health care and bioinformatics.

The latter dovetails neatly with the Bika Biobanking project at SANBI, the University of the Western Cape's National Bioinformatics Institute.

UW's DEOHS sponsors enhancements in analysis batching and sample preparation which are welcome additions for many other disciplines, e.g. Fire Assay. Functions funded by SANBI compliment those of the DEOHS neatly and first delovery are included in the upcoming 3.1.6 release, targeted for 14 November - or when it is ready;-)

The DEOHS LIMS is designed to meet the Environmental Health Laboratory and Trace Organics Analysis Center requirement, which will see Bika put through AIHA accreditation audits next year.

DEOHS' logo, the Soul Catcher, is a Northwest Coast Indian symbol of physical and mental well-being.

Apart from preventative education and research towards clean air, water, safe food and workplaces, the DEOHS Functional Genomics Laboratory uses environmental and trace organics results to determine environmental and occupational interaction with genetic variation to affect human health.
