Riding Bytes clears final MBA fence like a master

During a two week seminar towards his MBA at the Graduate School of Business of the University of Cape Town late 2015, Ramon hooked up with the Bika founders, among the first using Plone JSON API he authored. Impact of Netiquette on Email Communication

The thesis' research results support the belief that using email in a respectful and courteous way make significant positive impressions on recipients. By default, posts are likely to get evaluated more negatively than intended. Text-based communication makes it difficult to convey emotion or ambiguity.

Colloquially, the Netiquette portmanteau, for Network etiquette, is a set of social conventions originating from Usenet days - 1983, see first canonical post, when the Net was tough, to counter aggravations such as discussion hijacking, top-, multi-, cross- and off-topic posting. Today it applies virtually unchanged to mailing lists, forums, blogs and the wild social networking frontiers.

Ramon's study focused specifically on Email Netiquette, and its impact on understanding, job satisfaction, uncertainty and sender likeability. One hundred and five participants evaluated four email examples, which were supposedly written by superiors or subordinates. The mail contained negative messages, rejection and criticism, and were delivered either as clean content, or with common Netiquette applied.

Results showed that mail high in Netiquette significantly improved all measured parameters. Additionally, the status of the sender levered job satisfaction. Evidence of gender differences were also found.
