2.1 Lab user groups and their roles

OverviewWhen a new user is created in Bika, he/she is assigned to a Group and the new user inherits pthe privileges and authotisations configured for that group The group hierarchy encorporates ISO 17025 mappings Lab groupsLabclerksDoes mostly administrative non-analytical tasks in the system, like receiving samples, filling out Sample registration forms, making up worksheets and handling orders and queries SamplersStaff members tasked to take samples and capture sampling data, e.g. field analysis results and sampling date/time PreserversUsers authorised to preserve samples on arrival at the laboratory AnalystsLabtechnicians, analyse the samples in the lab, create worksheets and capture results, either manually or imported from instruments LabmanagersAuthorised to all of the above, and also has to verify results and publish them. Labmanagers are the only users allowed to enter the LIMS setup to configure items such as Analysis services, Profiles and Templates, etc. Other management functions only available to labmanagers include invoicing and prices, management reporting and monitoring logs |
ClientsClient ContactsThe lab client's representatives. Authorised Client users request analyses and receive its published results. They have access to their own organisation's data only. They can edit their own contact details and preferences as well as their Sample Points, Analysis Profiles and Specifications Not all client contacts have to be LIMS users, but to maintain contact details to other staff at the client such as administrative and QC personnel, who may also be included as recipients of results reports as required Complimentary rolesIf required, two complimentary roles, Verifier and Publisher, are available to be assigned to users in addition to their standard roles. Verifier and Publisher roles are not valid on their own, they can only be used together with one of the other roles, be it Analyst or Labclerk VerifiersA complimentary role that can be assigned to any qualified lab member to authorise them to verify results, typically used during peak periods when lab managers cannot find enough capacity for verification duties PublishersAnother complimentary role, to authorise users to publish analysis results. This is not as critical as verification and is often assigned to Labclerks

IT administratorsAdminHigh level authorisation to the system and its back-end. Not intended to be used on a day to day basis. Password to be safely guarded AuditorsRegulatory InspectorsA Bika role for government control boards to access the system for inspections of records and regulatory compliance. View access only.
