May day. Not Mayday. All well
Blogged 1 May 2018, Lemoene Smit, Cape Town, FOSS LIMS full steam aheadDevelopment did stop in the Bika repositories yes, but lives on in Senaite's where it evolved to. Four man years of code has been added by ten+ contributors since. Learning from OpenERP / Odoo, to clear Bika naming confusion and please search engine crawlers, we continue to use Bika Senaite on these pages. The process is a migration stimulating to observe, Professional Open Source meritocracy in full flight; POS LIMS combines a traditional community of enthusiasts with professional engineers and fee paying lab sponsors who benefit from industry quality code, and best of breed design, testing and traction enabled by the user community. It is powerful because customers, developers and users are all self-motivated to behave in ways that are beneficial to themselves and, as a side effect, to all. Or as Linus sees it, Open Source is not a call to sit around the camp fire singing kumbajah... it only really works if everybody is contributing for their own selfish reasons. That puts conventional kitty herding cowboys to pasture too!-) Bests On the hoof, Lemoene * Bika is eighteen years young when one adds the Delphi prototype of 2000 and then early Zope version, Bach, after the lead dev's favourite composer. Improvement and feature requests Have to include code per pull request in the Github tracker. A forum for functionality discussions is now available. User Manual Replies make very good content for a Bika Senaite User Manual started recently, presentable now. Plan is to open it for direct contributions, and eventually the texts to be used towards the long cherished goal of the manual being dynamically maintained from the source code. Bika Cannabis Much Bika Cannabis code made it into the Senaite trunk already, more submissions in the wings. Good enough for an online demo at Cannabis.Bikalims.org. For this one we want to get the most out of the alliteration in Bika Cannabis!-) Demo Installations Both LIMS and Health demos are on fresh Senaite code versions too.
